We are looking for a solid ecotoxicologist, preferably with avian or terrestrial expertise, to help develop and defend agricultural products. Position Objectives

The mission of this position is to provide expertise in ecotoxicology testing and risk assessment to support all FMC chemical products. Key activities will include:
  • Acting as Study Monitor for all acute, subchronic and chronic ecotoxicology studies (fish, birds, algae, invertebrates, insects) primarily for EPA and EU as well as for other global regulatory agencies.
  • Conceiving, planning and conducting, or overseeing the research of others for toxicity testing to meet regulatory requirements and product safety concerns. This includes protocol preparation, test material transmittal, business agreements, and working with Quality Assurance to provide final reports.
  • Working with the business managers within FMC and with outside consultants to answer questions on environmental safety and ecotoxicology issues.
  • Preparing critical reviews, risk assessments, white papers, and position statements related to FMC products.
  • Understanding legislative and regulatory initiatives that shape the regulatory environment for the industry, gathering formal and informal data, recommending in advance of competitive pressure, and influencing outcomes to enhance our competitive position.

  • Attending scientific/technical meetings and workshops to improve technical skills and report on new developments.

Position Requirements

You may be a good fit for this opportunity if you match one of these profiles:
  • A PhD in an ecotoxicology field (avian or terrestrial preferred) and 6+ years of industry experience.
  • A PhD in an ecotoxicology field with experience performing pesticide studies for regulatory applications.
  • A PhD in an ecotoxicology field with solid computer modeling/simulation experience (including developing algorithms) with techniques such as PRZM or GLEAMS.
  • A PhD in an ecotoxicology field with experience in industry-funded postdoctoral ecotoxicology studies.
  • A master's in an ecotoxicology field and 10+ years of industry experience.
In addition, you will need:
  • Significant experience in the field of ecotoxicology with a publication record in at least one of these areas: terrestrial, avian and/or aquatic ecotoxicology.

  • The ability to function in a leadership role with commercial business groups in developing defense strategy.
  • The ability to help design and manage work done at contract labs.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to be persuasive in arguments based on science with an understanding of politics and regulatory savvy.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and/or modeling.
  • The ability to become conversant about agriculture, agricultural products, and agricultural practices.
  • The ability to work independently and interdependently as appropriate.
The following regulatory experience and knowledge are strongly preferred:
  • Knowledge of GLP ecotoxicology studies for regulatory agencies under FIFRA or OECD guidelines.
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and requirements (EPA/FIFRA, EU, GLP, etc.)
  • Experience writing dossiers overviews for registration submissions and scientific defense essays.
  • Experience effectively interacting with regulatory agencies in the US, Europe, Brazil and/or Asia.
  • The ability to provide leadership is desired.
You also will need to be willing and able to travel, both domestically and internationally, up to 10% of the time.
