The Requirements

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated success in both internal and external communications.
  • Experience supporting the development of communication plans, strategies and messaging to accomplish specific goals.
  • The ability to independently develop a communications strategy is a strong plus.
  • Basic knowledge of new media and web / digital based technologies. Experience producing webcasts or podcasts is highly preferred.
  • Experience developing or working on crisis communication plans is preferred.
  • Experience working with design, PR, and related external agencies.
  • The ability to be effective in cross-functional projects in a large organization.
  • Tenacity and persuasiveness combined with tact.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • A proven ability to set and meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Excellent organizational skill and a high bias for action.
  • A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline.
  • Chemical industry experience is preferred but not required.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, you will join a growing team that includes professionals at FMC's global corporate headquarters in Philadelphia, as well as people in regional and business-specific roles around the world.

You will provide professional communications and PR support for a variety of FMC internal (primarily) and external initiatives. This will include developing and executing creative communication plans that support strategic company programs, including global employee recruiting campaigns, organizational and change management initiatives, community outreach strategies and major company events.

Your more specific activities will fall into a variety of areas:
  • HR and Recruiting: You will partner with Human Resources to develop impactful, creative and compelling tools and messages that position FMC as a leading employer of choice. You also will counsel and support HR with communication strategies that strengthen the delivery of HR-related news and information to the workforce, and develop communication tools that enhance employee engagement, dialog, and feedback.
  • Media Relations: You will work closely with the Director of Corporate Communications to manage FMC media activity. This will include developing and writing press releases, position statements, and media materials in support of corporate and business initiatives. You'll serve as the key interface with PR Newswire, and also develop and lead a robust media tracking process. In addition, you'll collaborate with internal and external resources to strengthen FMC's media exposure on traditional, digital and social media platforms.
  • Community Outreach: You will work with the Public Affairs leader to support various FMC community outreach initiatives, primarily in the Philadelphia area, but also at sites across the U.S. Responsibilities will include message and materials development, special events planning, publicity, and some issues communications support.
  • Change Management: You will provide organizational and change management communications support to various internal initiatives that are associated with FMC's Vision 2015 growth strategy.
  • Corporate Communications: You will support a wide variety of PR and communication needs, including message development, speech writing, video script writing and production, development of presentations, annual report and sustainability report production, crisis communications support and media relations on selected topics.
